True wisdom is gained through years of experience and remembering. Mary, as Jesus' mother, showed this quality by cherishing and reflecting on the events of her Son's life. For this, we call her the Seat of Wisdom and for this, we are proud to have our school named for Our Lady of Wisdom. Founded as the first school in Annunciation Parish in 1959, the school offered programs to both French-speaking and English-speaking students. In 1987, it was felt that Our Lady of Wisdom would be an ideal location for instruction of French immersion. The program started in senior kindergarten. The French immersion program is thriving and continuing to grow each year. A strong community spirit has been built up over the years. We continue to enjoy strong links with Annunciation Parish and with the parents who bring their children to our school from a number of communities.
Wexford consists of mostly post-World War II type bungalow housing, apartments, retail and commercial space. The Church of St. Jude was once the Anglican church for the small village of Wexford, and survives today as a landmark in the modern urban area. Maryvale was first settled as farmland and the neighbourhood is named after the Maryvale farm that once covered part of the area. It was an early part of Scarborough to be developed, being turned into a new suburb in the early 1950s. The housing stock in this neighbourhood consists mainly of cozy, brick bungalows as well as storey-and-a-half homes.
