Our School

Southwood Park Public School endeavours to provide a 21st century learning and teaching environment for all its students and staff. It is a JK - Grade 8 dual-track school (English and French Immersion Programs) with a current enrolment of over 700 students. The school was built 1969 and is located in a mature residential area of south Ajax. For the most part, the students in our English program walk to school from the local community, while our French Immersion students are bussed from the Ajax area south of the 401 highway.

Southwood Park Public School is a great place to learn and play. Students enjoy the many extra-curricular activities offered before school, at lunch and after school under the leadership of dedicated and enthusiastic staff. The diversity of the school is evident from the great variety of cultural backgrounds, learning styles and interests that reflect the student population. 

Co-Curricular Programs

The co-curricular program at the school provides students with an opportunity to engage in activities outside the walls of the classroom. The Durham Elementary Athletic Association supports a variety of inter-school sports including cross-country, soccer, volleyball, basketball, curling, cricket, slo-pitch, dodgeball and track and field. Try-outs for these competive teams are held throughout the school year. Intra-mural athletics is supported through a house league program that encourages active particpation.

School designated clubs reflect the interests of both staff and students. There is a wind range of activities in the arts as well as other varied opportunities. Please see the attached list of what is available this year.  The timing of each event depends on teacher availability and students are informed through the daily announcements. Permission forms and other communication will come home to parents depending on the nature of the activity and daily announcments are posted on the home page of the school website.
