Our motto at James Potter Public School is, “Dream, Believe, Achieve.” Our students are encouraged to dream big dreams, believe in themselves and set goals to achieve their dreams. Our mission is to promote a safe, diverse and inclusive learning community, working in partnership to encourage our students to become productive citizens. We have a goal of lifelong learning through which we celebrate our achievements, successes and potential. We offer a wide range of extracurricular activities and leadership opportunities such as Bollywood dance, the art club, recorder, harmonica, choir, all types of sports, the Eco Team, the chess club, PALS and others. Students have many opportunities to demonstrate their leadership as announcers, office helpers, pizza helpers, library support, kindergarten assistants and lunchroom helpers. Our PALS leaders are specially trained to play games at recess with younger students.

James Potter is a relatively new school and we foster a real sense of community. Parent involvement is always welcomed and encouraged. Our principal hosts a monthly Parent Tea with educational speakers, who discuss topics of interest to parents such as literacy, nutrition, anti-bullying, indoor games and community resources for families. We have many volunteers who support our students in the classroom, assist in the library, attend school council meetings and support our special events. Parents have participated with their children at events such as Family Fitness Night, an anti-bullying presentation, Math Night and a school barbecue evening.

Our community also welcomes educators from other community institutions to share in our learning. Once a week the Lions Bus is parked outside the school and provides free programming for preschoolers and their parents. The Region of Peel offers a free Family Literacy Program in the library for children aged 6 and under on Tuesdays from February until April. Recently, we have welcomed visiting principals from Africa and Australia to visit with our students and share wonderful stories from their home countries. At James Potter, we truly welcome the world to join our school community.
