As members of the St. John Bosco School community, we share these core values and beliefs:
As a Gospel People:
We are united in Jesus Christ who reveals God’s love to the world and shows the way to live a fully human life and to achieve our true potential. We are lifelong learners on a journey, accepting and respecting the fact that we are at different stages in our faith development. We as educators have a calling; vocation of service to others, using Jesus Christ as our model in developing human potential. We strive to provide a climate, perspective and value system based on the teachings of Jesus, as a staff, and to our students, in a time dominated by materialism, individualism and relativism. We do our utmost to provide a community that respects the dignity of each person as a child of God, thereby nurturing the good and providing healing and reconciliation in times of difficulties. We apply our faith to everything we do and celebrate what we believe in rituals, symbols and sacraments. We are part of the greater Catholic community which has a vital and important role to play in the total development of a child. We have an appreciation and respect for the variety of functions, gifts and authorities within our Catholic community, knowing that each individual is empowered with the Holy Spirit. Learning reflects Gospel values rooted in the Catholic faith, and the morals, ethics and behaviours conducive to respect for self, others and the environment.
As Teachers:
We believe that parents/guardians are the primary educators of their children. We facilitate and support the development and enrichment of students and work together in partnership. We believe that each child has the right to the best possible education in the best possible educational environment. We help each child realize that he/she is loved and worthy of respect. We encourage each child to recognize and develop whatever talents he/she has and recognize the obligation to contribute to society. We encourage each child to grow in every respect and support them as they face the challenges of this growth. We strive to provide a safe and structured environment for children. We do our best to foster spiritual and intellectual growth in children by modelling the same.
CATHOLIC FOCUS
Our school is named after St. John Bosco the Patron Saint of youth. John Bosco became a Priest to take care of the poor and abandoned. He worked with youth, finding places where they could meet, play, pray, and teach catechism to them. He is the founder of the Salesian Society which has continued his apostolate for youth in Canada and in the whole world.
St. John Bosco Catholic School is an elementary school located in northeast Brampton. The student population is approximately 310 students from FDK to Grade 8. Our students come from a wide range of social and ethnic backgrounds, reflecting the ever-increasing diversity of cultures found within Brampton. St. John Bosco is also the host school for the Gifted Program for the Brampton area. Our school is equipped with a double gym, a stage, a large library, and a full computer lab and music keyboarding lab. Our school has a special education resource centre and currently the Gifted Centre for Dufferin-Peel schools north of the 401. St. John Bosco also offers a before and after school PLASP program.
St. John Bosco School was established to support Catholic parents in their responsibility for nurturing the spiritual, religious, moral, academic and physical development of their children in accordance with the teachings of the Church. The school community encourages excellence, the uniqueness of the individual and the education of the whole person. St. John Bosco School is a caring community that stresses tolerance, acceptance of others, commitment to our Catholic Faith and high academic standards. We provide a safe and comfortable learning environment where models of Gospel values and Catholic doctrines, teachings and beliefs are an integral part of the daily life of our school. The school motto, "Growing Together in Faith and Love to Serve One Another," was chosen through the process of community consultation and reflects a holistic philosophy where religious education and daily life are intertwined. Our goal is to engage all teachers, administrators, students and families in working together as a learning community that is dedicated to caring and support, active participation and positive expectations for all students.
Our students come to us with a variety of strengths and needs, with their Catholic faith as their common bond. Our prayer life, liturgical celebrations, the sacraments, and our faith form the foundation of our school program. The curriculum planned and provided in the school is broad, balanced and relevant to the needs and aspirations of all our students. A wide range of subjects and learning experiences are offered to develop the skills, abilities and talents of individual students. The instructional programs provided are adapted to meet the holistic needs of our students. These programs are conducted in an atmosphere that is supportive, caring and stimulating in order for students to achieve their learning expectations.
