Folkstone Public School encourages individual potential for success through positive learning experiences for all. We strive to be a community of learners (parents, students and staff) who work together to meet diverse learning needs. Providing a safe, welcoming and happy environment is our first priority, as children need to feel secure in order for learning to take place.

Folkstone is a French immersion school where learning takes place in both French and English. The French program is enriched by learning through the arts, drama, music and physical education in French. The library is filled with learning materials in both languages. Often, educational performances are presented in French. Our students also participate in French public speaking contests and the “French Idol” event.

Folkstone has exceptional learning opportunities for our students outside of the school. We offer learn to ski, snowboarding, gymnastics, curling, bowling, and swimming activities. There are many team sports such as basketball, volleyball, soccer, flag football, floor hockey, cross-country running and track and field. Teams are challenged by teams from other neighbouring schools and often bring home a trophy.

There are many leadership opportunities such as student council, foot patrollers, bus, hall and lunch monitors, recycling team, library helpers, daily physical activity leaders and healthy food basket helpers. Clubs include dance, chess, crotchet, Silver Birch reading, primary and junior choirs, recorder groups and major theatrical productions.

Opportunities for parents include a very active school council, special lunch days, fundraising to support school programs, Reading Assistance Program (RAP), library assistance and book fairs, school trips and activities, paid lunchroom supervisors and volunteer office help.
