Our School

Four Winds Montessori School has been in operation since 1996. In 1996, we opened our doors with 8 students in one classroom. We now have grown to 5 classrooms: Casa 1, Casa 2, Elementary 1, 2, and 3. The goals of Four Winds Montessori School are to provide children 2 ½ through age 13, a safe, nurturing, and academically stimulating environment. In this environment every child can develop a positive self-image, confidence, and fundamental academic understanding. The school takes pride in a quality early childhood education program. We believe the early years of education are what form a strong solid foundation for academic achievement in the future. All of the staff at Four Winds Montessori School either hold their Montessori Diploma or E.C.E. Diploma. In addition we employ assistants who are at various points in their learning careers.

About Montessori

Maria Montessori was born in Italy in 1870 and her revolutionary approach to education is recognized and practiced worldwide. The Montessori classroom is carefully prepared and equipped with learning materials that appeal to the child's sense of curiosity and desire to learn. The materials are bright, attractive and placed within the child's reach. Care of the environment or classroom is as much the children's responsibility as the teacher's and they are encouraged to return an activity to its proper place after use. This helps develop organization and consideration for others. Many of the materials are "self-correcting," meaning that if they are used improperly, it becomes obvious and the child can correct his own mistake. Teaching is done with concrete and abstract materials that encourage positive results. The children are encouraged to help teach others who may not have mastered a certain activity. Appreciation of nature and culture are an important aspect of a Montessori classroom. Many of the materials encourage learning about plants, animals and our world; as well as, language and mathematics. Montessorians believe that children have an inner desire for peace and order in their lives; through a carefully prepared class and program and a sensitive, caring teacher who understands which set limits are necessary for each child, enhance a child's development and promote a positive self-image.

Extra Curricular Activities

Our program also includes Monday after school games club, Tuesday and Thursday intramurals, Wednesday art club and Friday scrap booking. We have a music teacher who comes in to teach private music lessons for those families interested in this service. Four Winds Montessori School also participates in the Independent Schools Association’s annual Track and Field meet as well as cross country and soccer tournaments.
