About German Mills PS

German Mills P.S. was officially opened on June 5, 1975 in an open concept design. Over time, most of the open spaces have been divided into a more traditional classroom structure. The downstairs was extensively renovated in 2003. We unite in our purpose to inspire and prepare learners for life in our changing world community.

German Mills PS is located in German Mills

German Mills, in southwest Markham, was named for the early German settlers in the area, and has a rich history. German Mills became the first significant industrial complex in Markham township. In the 1790s, it boasted a warehouse for the Northwest Fur Trade Company, a grist mill, saw mill, blacksmith shop, and homes. Today German Mills is primarily a residential neighbourhood, with the bulk of the homes being single-family residences built in the 1970s and 1980s, as well as some apartment buildings and townhomes. The neighbourhood features park lands as well as natural areas along the Rouge River.
