History

German Mills P.S. is named after the name of the original settlement in the area.

Facilities

German Mills P.S. was officially opened on June 5, 1975 in an open concept design. Over time, most of the open spaces have been divided into a more traditional classroom structure. The downstairs was extensively renovated in 2003. 

Programs

As with each school in the York Region District School Board, German Mills P.S. support student learning through the curriculum standards set out by the Ontario Ministry of Education and many other co-curricular activities.

Our school:

• Promotes a safe and supportive learning environment. This is done through the Board's Safe and Supportive Schools Policy and Procedures, the Character Education Initiatives and the TRIBES norms.
• Provides Special Education Programs
• Provides a before and after school program. Service is provided by York Professional Day Care.

Safe and Supportive Schools/Character Education/Equity Education

Every student has the right to learn in a safe and supportive environment. They York Region District School Board has a Safe and Supportive Schools Policy and a defined procedure to implement the policy. Both the policy and procedure support the view that student discipline involves a continuum of support including prevention, intervention and appropriate consequences. The YRDSB remains committed to the inclusion of anti-racist and equity education in its policies and programs. 

In addition, German Mills P.S. supports the development of character education in the York Region District School Board.  

Character Matters Initiative and Tribes Process are used by teachers in the classroom programs on a regular basis.
