Our School
History
Henderson Avenue P.S. is named after the street on which it is located.
Our school motto is incorporated in the Henderson Ave. P.S. school song:
Let me tell you about a place so cool
Henderson Avenue Public School
Where they say ooh, ah, ooh ah ah
The doors are open, come inside
Hear teachers and students sing with pride
Ooh, ah, ooh ah ah
It means, "we care about fairness
And equality
I'm proud of myself, proud of you
And our community."
Oh, since 1952
A place for me, a place for you
To sing Ooh, ah, ooh ah ah
Feel the beat of Henderson
In the heart of everyone
Singing ooh, ah, ooh ah ah
Our school mascot is the Eagle.
Facilities
Henderson Avenue P.S. was an older facility that was beautifully maintained throughout the years. However, the school was destroyed by fire, July 1998. The new school opened March 27, 2000. As it is a replacement school, the same accommodations are provided for students.
Programs
As with each school in the York Region District School Board, Henderson Avenue P.S. support student learning through the curriculum standards set out by the Ontario Ministry of Education and many other co-curricular activities.
Our school promotes a safe and supportive learning environment. This is done through the Board's Safe Schools Policy and Procedures and the Character Education Initiatives. We also have a Gifted Program for students in grades 4 to 8 and provide Special Education support for students requiring remediation.
We are also very proud to offer the following programs to our students:
- Anti-Bullying Programs
- Guest speakers and workshops in the area of The Arts
- A number of Arts and Music opportunities throughout the year
- Various team sports across the divisions
- VIP program for grade 6 students
