Overview
Greensborough P.S. was officially opened in September 2004. The school is located at the corner of Bur Oak Ave. and Alfred Paterson Drive in the town of Markham. The community consists mainly of detached homes and some town homes. The school attendance area is bounded on the south by Sixteenth Ave, on the west by, Highway Forty Eight, on the east by the Ninth Line, and on the north by Major Mackenzie Drive.
Greensborough P.S. is a "Living School", one of 35 schools in the province that are part of a pilot project with O.P.H.E.A. It is a community-driven effort to inspire and support our school to become an environment that promotes active healthy living for children and youth. Members of the school community have come together -students, parents, school staff, recreational organizations, health professionals and businesses - to develop programs and policies that increase access to and opportunities for, active healthy living. These opportunities include the sharing of community facilities and resources, health and physical education, nourishment programs, recreational activities, coordinated community events, and school-run events.
Greensborough also has a before and after school program owned and operated by the Y.M.C.A. Their staff work closely with teachers, parents and administration to support students attending our school.

Safe and Supportive Schools/Character Education/Equity Education
Every student has the right to learn in a safe and supportive environment. The York Region District School Board has a Safe Schools Policy and a defined procedure to implement the policy. Both the policy and procedure support the view that student discipline involves a continuum of support including prevention, intervention and appropriate consequences.
Greensborough PS also supports the Board’s ‘Character Matters’ initiative. We nurture the spirit of our school community through the many ‘Character Matters’ events and extra-curricular activities. These activities are embedded in and permeate our curriculum.
The diversity within our school and community is our greatest strength. We support all members of the Greensborough family with respect, equity and inclusive practices. We implement the ideals and policies outlined in the Board’s Anti-Racist/Ethno-Cultural Equity policy. The school’s staff integrates anti-racist/equity learning into regular programming in an attempt to create this inclusive and supportive school environment.
The following is an overview of the school’s Safe and Supportive Schools, Character Education, and Anti-Racist and Ethno cultural Equity initiatives:
- Monthly school wide Character themes – introduced during morning announcements, followed up classroom discussions and shared in monthly newsletters and student agendas.
- Student Led Workshops on character development through anti-racism and anti-bullying education.
- Student involvement in global leadership activities (i.e. Helping Hands, Together We’re Better Conference)
- School staff hiring to reflect the diversity of the school and community population
- Diversity committee is made up of staff members that recognize, educate and celebrate cultural/religious traditions/special days/months (i.e. Diwali, Eid, Kwanza, Hanukkah, Christmas, Chinese New Year, Black History Month, South Asian Heritage Month, Easter, etc.)
