Legacy P.S. is named after the development area immediately surrounding the school. The school is built in what was once the Town of Box Grove, at the intersection of 9th line and 14th Avenue. Our school was opened in September of 2006 and currently we are the learning base for 600 students. Legacy P.S. is already known as a school where children have many opportunities to demonstrate their individual strengths and abilities through a wide variety of activities. We are already very proud of our achievements, not only in the classroom, but also on the athletic field, the environment and student leadership. Our school teams are known as the Legacy Lightning and have already achieved considerable success across York Region. Students are also encouraged to participate in a number of extra curricular activities.
The Legacy residential neighbourhood is in southeast Markham, bordered by Highway 407 in the north, Ninth Line to the east, and the Rouge River to the south and west. The area has plenty of green and forested space, along the river, and open areas in the north. Part of a golf course lies in the southern region. The area is middle- to upper-income, and residences are larger single-family homes.
