Our School
History
Cornell Village Public School is named after the beautiful village of Cornell. The community focuses on developing a close and neighbourly community life. Our school has quickly become one of the major hubs for community life and ongoing life-long learning.
Our school motto, ‘Cornell Develops Character', is based on one of the major priorities in our School Plan.
Our school mascot is the ‘Cornell Cobra'.
Facilities
Cornell Village P.S. began classes in September 2003 and our official opening is scheduled for April 22, 2004.
Our school is located at 168 Country Glen Road in the eastern area of Markham. The school attendance area is bounded on the south by Highway #7, on the west by the Ninth Line, on the east by the Tenth Line and on the north by Major MacKenzie.
A child-care centre Cornell Daycare Centre, owned and operated by Upper Canada Creative Child Care is located at Cornell Village P.S. and provides daycare before and after school. The centre staff works closely with teachers and parents and administration to support students attending the school.

Safe and Supportive Schools/Character Education/Anti-Racism and Ethno-cultural Equity
Every student has the right to learn in a safe and supportive environment. The York Region District School Board has a Safe Schools Policy and a defined procedure to implement the policy. Both the policy and procedure support the view that student discipline involves a continuum of support including prevention, intervention and appropriate consequences. Cornell Village P.S. supports and implements the ideals and policies outlined in the Board's Anti-Racist/Ethno-Cultural Equity policy. The school's staff integrates anti-racist/equity learning into regular programming in an attempt to create a school environment that is inclusive, supportive and respectful in all regards.
In addition, Cornell Village P.S. supports the development of Character Education in an anti-racist, anti-bullying learning environment in the York Region District School Board. The following is an overview of the school's Character Education Priority:
- School-wide Character themes – focusing on Respect, Responsibility and Empathy
- Empathy Programs to support Yellow Brick House, Covenant House and the local food bank
- Monthly newsletters focused on our School Plan for Continuous Improvement
- Grades 2 to 8 use of School Agenda Planners to focus on homework completion and parent communication
- Pathways-type Pre-School Drop-in Program
