Hazel McCallion Sr. Public School is a dynamic middle school committed to excellence, with a focus on personal growth and individual success. Our programs include grade 6 to 8 English and French immersion, as well as three special needs programs, including ASD, DD and DD/ASD. We strive to meet the diverse needs of our students by providing opportunities for both academic and personal growth in a welcoming, caring, respectful, inclusive and safe learning environment. Our students represent a variety of religions and cultures, and sixteen languages other than English are spoken in the home, with Punjabi, Arabic and Urdu being the main languages. Our student population is approximately 800.

Our school values are diversity, literacy, high expectations, teamwork and wellness. Staff at Hazel McCallion are committed to working with students to help them reach their full potential to be the best that they can be. The Hazel McCallion staff are lifelong learners, who model collaborative and co-operative program planning directed towards meeting high academic expectations. They believe in open and ongoing communication with parents about student progress and school programs.

Students have varied opportunities to become involved in a variety of clubs, student leadership opportunities, teams, extracurricular and intramural activities. Every year we offer students in each grade an opportunity to attend an overnight excursion. Of note, is our Annual Terry Fox Fundraiser where, for the past six years, we have raised over $120,000.00 and have ranked in the top ten schools in Ontario for the highest amount raised. We offer a daily Breakfast Program as well as a Lunch Lady Program and Pizza Days. We host a Special Olympics in June for students in special needs programs in middle schools from across the region.

We also have an excellent partnership with our school council. In addition to providing input towards our school success plans, they have also provided financial support through various fundraisers. Our school council also received $1,000.00 in Parents Reaching Out Grants to create a multi-lingual resource library for parents to assist their children with the everyday challenges of being successful, both in and out of school.
