Philosophy & Objectives
At ABC Montessori, we believe that education is the foundation for life. The education that a child receives at an early age is one of the most important factors that will determine his or her future. The impact of early education is felt throughout a person’s life. A student’s school experience must be positive and fulfilling. We believe the school environment must be warm and nurturing. We believe that the responsibility of ensuring a student receives a good education is shared by the school and parents. School staff and parents are partners, working together to ensure that we instill sound values, guide and inspire students to reach their full potential.
ABC Montessori’s educational philosophy is based on educating the “whole child”. Teaching a student structure, discipline, good work habits, time management and practical life and social skills is as important as academics. We believe that building self-confidence, independence and motivation will give a person the ability to attempt new things, to be a leader and to always put forth their best effort.
An Enhanced and Challenging Curriculum
Once students enter the elementary program at the age of 5 years, the program takes on a new approach. The reliance on materials to supplement learning is reduced while mental ability takes on a more important role. Our curriculum uses the Ministry of Education guidelines to develop an enhanced curriculum that encourages the student to build a strong foundation of the fundamentals in numeracy and literacy. Students undergo a rigorous work plan that teaches English, Math, French, Science, Social Studies, Art, Music, and Physical Education.
The programs have been fine-tuned over the years to address changes in the Ministry curriculum and have been improved each year based on teacher feedback. A majority of our Grade 5 students proceed to specialized highly competitive Region of Peel programs such as International Baccalaureate (IB), Science and Technology (SciTech), International Business and Technology (IB Tech). Students in Grades 4 and 5 also participate in the annual Mathematica Contest in which our school has been placed as a top private school in Mississauga.
CASA 2 1/2 – 5 years of age
Your child deserves a meaningful early education. Dr. Maria Montessori discovered that in the development of the child, there are “sensitive periods”. At certain stages, children pass through periods of sensitivity to such things as order, courtesy, touch, practical life, language, and numeracy. Our certified Montessori teachers combine this knowledge and a judicious use of authentic Montessori materials, along with traditional learning materials and techniques to provide children with a strong foundation for learning and personal growth. Our CASA program is much more academic focused than the traditional material-only based Montessori program. Students work with textbooks, workbooks and readers as well as the Montessori materials. Language and math are the core of the curriculum.
Pre-CASA & Toddler – 18 months – 2 1/2 years of age
ABC Montessori has developed a creative early childhood curriculum that incorporates sound educational principles with an exceptional level of care in a nurturing environment. Our Pre-CASA program offers learning centres where children can work individually or in small groups. Teacher directed activities are balanced by ample time for exploratory play and personal discovery. Schedules are designed to balance structure and free choice, as well as active and quiet times. The Pre-CASA program is a language based curriculum that is specifically designed for the child to develop a sense of self, oral language skills, early socialization skills, basic cognitive concepts and sensory motor skills.
