At Kenollie Public School, our mission is, “We empower students by promoting lifelong learning, respect for others and a quest for personal excellence. Our community of learners will reflect upon best practices and celebrate success.” Our vision is, “Our School strives to be a premier learning institute connected to a global environment.” To realize our mission and vision, our school community values include:
• high expectations for all students;
• individual needs and learning styles of every student;
• partnership between the students’ families and the school;
• collaboration and teamwork; and
• respect for diversity and acceptance of all members of the learning community
“Be the best you can be.” We are committed to moving our students forward not only academically. but also by giving our students opportunities to grow personally. We encourage students to focus on setting goals, making a plan and achieving personal success. Our classrooms and library are well equipped with technology (in part, thanks to the fundraising efforts of our school council) which helps to engage our students and support their learning in all subject areas, including literacy, numeracy, social studies, science and technology, the arts, and French (grades 4 and up).
Scorch, our school mascot, is a Dragon who helps to promote the 6 Peel character attributes. Students are recognized and rewarded for demonstrating qualities and behaviours that align with caring, cooperative, inclusive, respectful, honest and responsible. Students are taught and reinforced these traits through classroom lessons and every month a class finds a creative way to highlight one trait at our Scorch Assembly. The monthly assemblies also give us the opportunity to honour our students of the week from each classroom.
As a learning community, we also support students and their participation in a wide variety of extracurricular activities. These activities can include: art club, choir, knitting club, bench soccer, Silver Birch, Eco club, cross country, basketball, yoga, chess club, photo club, track and field, dragon boating, world cup soccer, running club, volleyball and floor hockey. Each year our teachers find new and interesting offerings. We offer a performing arts series and several opportunities for outside of school field studies. These activities are great ways for our students to showcase their talents and engage with each other and other schools as they learn about teamwork, sportsmanship and build confidence.
Kenollie has a very committed and dedicated school council. Together with a host of volunteers, they organize the annual Fall Fair (late September) and Dad’s Barbeque (early June). We welcome and celebrate the many parent and community volunteers that come into the school on a regular basis and are most proud of our strong All-Star reading program. As a school community, we are very proud of the variety of fundraising and donation activities we engage in as we support children all over the world and within our local community.
At Kenollie, our school community is striving to “Be All We Can Be” and together we are making a difference! Kenollie is a great place to learn and work!
