At Morning Star Middle School, our mission is to develop active global citizenship and lifelong learners. Our vision is to foster an environment that encourages creativity, acceptance, curiosity, responsibility and lifelong learning.
Welcome to a day in the life of Morning Star! Our commitment to our school begins before the school day, providing breakfast at our student-run breakfast program. Foot patrollers greet our parents and bus drivers every morning, directing traffic to help keep our students safe. We challenge ourselves through social skills lessons that incorporate our Peel board character traits, and build on these lessons throughout the day. During school wide Village Days, we work on caring, inclusivity and respect as we play cooperative games, instilling a sense of belonging and teamwork, while trying new things. Our staff-student mentorship program helps to deepen relationships, and nurtures the emotional development of the students.
We believe in the global community and regularly offer support to the local food bank, and other worthy causes throughout the year under the direction of our student council. This encourages the global citizenship we value at Morning Star, and helps us to channel the creativity and curiosity that is our vision for the student body. Our staff are committed to the whole child, offering theatre, steel pan, guitar, bucket drumming and a variety of sports teams that provide opportunities for student success in many areas. Science, math and language arts are not just classes of study, but chances to learn about robotics, take part in special competitions and grow through reading and writing.
We believe that “it takes a village to raise a child.” Our parents are actively involved in volunteering, making lunches for students who need them and supervising during the lunch hour. They further their contributions through our annual multi-fest activities. After school, the learning continues as we collaborate with community groups and service providers, like Peel Community Health Services, Malton Neighbourhood Services and the Kids and Youth Activity Centre. These organizations run activities to further support our students’ development. Counting on You and OFIP tutoring provide remediation and extracurricular art classes display beautiful representations of Canada and its history.
Morning Star is a community of people and cultures committed to building and positively impacting lives. Every relationship we’ve developed, every leadership opportunity provided and every moment spent learning in and beyond the classroom leads to another life being challenged and changed. Together, we excel!
