Our School

Mentor College was founded in 1982 to provide a programme of education based on proven traditional methods of teaching. Since then, the school has earned a reputation for solid academic performance and the success of its students at the post-secondary level attests to this. Emphasis is placed on the basics of reading, writing, and mathematics, and on preparing students for an active, rewarding life.

Facilities

Mentor College boasts excellent facilities for academics, sports, the arts, and outdoor education. Since its inception in 1981, Mentor College/TEAM School has continued to upgrade its facilities to adapt to the needs of its students. In the “bricks and mortar” category, this has included purchasing parcels of land, putting up buildings and constructing additions. On the inside of the buildings, the school annually renovates rooms, re-outfits computer and science labs and purchases classroom materials and equipment to accommodate changes that our faculty and student body require. The Main Campus is home to the Technology Resource Centre – which facilitates the classroom use of iPads and laptops to enhance learning where necessary. In 2015, Mentor College completed the construction of an artificial turf and track – along with a seasonal dome which is used during the winter months.

Director, Ken Philbrook, co-founded Mentor College because as a teacher, he was concerned with the direction education was taking. He dedicated himself to building and maintaining a unique environment where children can experience the joys of learning and develop self-confidence and self-esteem.
