In September 1990 River Oaks opened its doors for the first time and it was immediately recognized that our most important resources would be the people within our building. Students quickly came to appreciate the many special characteristics of River Oaks and a committed staff provided a warm and caring environment for children.
River Oaks continues to be highly regarded for the unique learning opportunities afforded to students and has drawn the attention of educators and business people from around the globe. Since opening, we have had visitors from almost every continent. Students at River Oaks delight in the opportunity to demonstrate their skills, knowledge and applied learning for visitors.
At River Oaks we recognize that it takes a community to create the optimal learning environment for your children. The full cooperation of parents, teachers, and other individuals is required for students to experience success. When the school, home and community work together our students will be able to reach their full potential. The best way to ensure this cooperation is through regular open communication.
Tribes
Our school is a Tribes school. Tribes is a process that creates a culture which maximizes learning and human development. In our school, students, staff, and the community commit to using these positive agreements:
- Attentive Listening
- Appreciation/No Put-downs
- Right to Pass/Responsibility to Participate
- Mutual Respect
The practice of these agreements has become an important part of our caring school community climate and we hope that you will reinforce them at home.
Vision
River Oaks has maintained this vision over the years:
- Enriching student talents through co-curriculars
- A focus on improving students’ learning and attitudes to health active living
- A School Council involved in climate building and support to students and staff
- A committed and active parent volunteer group
- A caring, safe and positive environment
- Students who care about learning and strive to do their best!
We look forward to continuing to build on our existing traditions as well as exploring whatever new ideas will enrich our students’ growth academically, emotionally and socially.
