Our School

Coronation Public School is located in a residential area in North Oshawa, and hosts a population of approximately 417 students from a variety of areas in the city. Our school welcomes students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8 with 8 classes allotted to Special Education (3 Gifted Education classes)). Our school opened in 1953.

The focus at Coronation is on success for all students in academic programs. We also focus on student self-esteem and character. A school-wide emphasis on meeting Ontario curriculum expectations, providing innovative instructional strategies, and comprehensive assessment and evaluation policies ensure the success of our students. Particular programs include Character Assemblies, Safe Schools initiatives, Terry Fox Run, and Green (Eco) club. The increased use of assistive technology throughout the school continues to be a focus as staff and students are introduced to new equipment and software.

These issues are discussed in the Ministry of Education's Curriculum documents to promote fairness, healthy relationships, and active, responsible citizenship.   

The Durham District School Board's school libraries and classroom resources reflect inclusivity and serve to foster sensitivity towards individuals and groups that have traditionally been and/or are currently being marginalized within the broader society. These resources serve to identify and remove barriers that may exist for various groups and families. They may touch on topics of ethnicity, disability, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age, family status and marital status.
