Our School

​Vincent Massey School has been a part of the Oshawa community since 1959. The school has had three additions, the most recent adding on a new gym, library, 4 kindergarten classrooms and 2 classrooms. The main building now has 20 classrooms, a library, and resource centre. Approximately 40% of our students travel to and from school by bus and slightly over 80% of our students stay for lunch. In September 2013, the boundary areas were modified for several Oshawa public schools and we welcomed approximately 90 new students who had previously attended Athabasca P.S.

Our Staff

We have a staff of 24 teachers, 5 full time Educational Assistants and 4 Early Childhood Educators. Our classes are supported by 1 full-time Special Education Resource Teacher (SERT) who assists the classroom teachers with programming suggestions, as well as assessment strategies. A Literacy Coach, that provides support on a regular basis to students and teachers in reading, writing and mathematics. And a Special Education Resource Coach, who provides support to teachers with regards to making accomodations and modifications to curriculum expectations for students with special education needs. 

School Programs and Events

Our School Community Council plays an active role in many aspects of our school, including communication, curriculum, partnerships, and social events. Our SCC also actively supports student programs through their fund-raising efforts. Our students participate in a wide variety of co-instructional activities. These include bands, choirs, and various athletic teams and clubs.

Our School History

Our school was opened in 1959 and was originally named Princess Margaret. The name was changed to Vincent Massey after the first Canadian born Governor-General. Our current enrolment is approximately 490 students.
