At Woodcrest we respect children, families and see our school playing a vital role in the future successes of our community. We believe that families are the most important factor in the development of a child's character and life. We desire to build good interactions with parents and to help guide their children towards growth and well being. We commit ourselves to doing the very best for all our students and strive to help them develop independence, confidence, self-esteem and self-sufficiency. Woodcrest Public School is situated in west Oshawa. Our student population is approximately 300 students. We have one Special Education program at Woodcrest Public School. The Behaviour Assessment Class (B.A.C.) is a primary classroom and serves students from all over Oshawa. Our philosophy is to integrate students from this program into the academic and cultural life of the school to the level of each student’s ability. The Woodcrest staff is dedicated to guiding, encouraging and nurturing students so they will achieve maximum success in all aspects of their lives.
The McLaughlin neighbourhood is in west central Oshawa, on Oshawa's western boundary. It is an older neighbourhood, predominantly residential, with commercial areas, including restaurants, along King Street West, the southern boundary. Housing in McLaughlin includes complexes of low-rise apartment buildings, townhome complexes, and single-detached homes from the 1950s-1960s, bungalow-style, as well as some older 2-storey homes from roughly the 1930s, and a southwest subdivision off of Thornton from roughly the 1980s.
