Our School

Great Beginnings Montessori School (G.B.M.S) , Durham Elementary Private School (D.E.P.S) and Durham Academy are independent private schools. We are members in good standing with The Ontario Federation of Independent Private Schools. We are continuously broadening our services to meet the changing needs of our students and parents.

Currently, we offer Toddler and Pre-Casa classes licensed with the Child Care and Early Years Act. Casa following a full Montessori Curriculum, Elementary Program grades 1 to 8 following the Ontario Curriculum and High School following the STEM program (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and Ontario Curriculum. Our staff boasts specifically trained Montessori Educators, R.E.C.E's, OCT Teachers and specialists in Art, Music, Physical Education and French. 

Our Teachers

All teachers in the school are certified by the Ontario Department of Education. They enter the Durham Education Group after rounds of selections. All the schools of Durham Education Group conduct small-class education, with a 1:13 teacher-student ratio. Each teacher will have more energy to take care of the individual needs of different children to provide students with truly personalized education.

Durham Academy, Durham Elementary, and Great Beginnings Montessori (G.B.M.S.) offers students from 18 months to grade 12 an excellent educational foundation. The challenging & diversified curricular program is taught at an enriched level. Students are encouraged & supported to move ahead if they are academically and socially capable. At the High School level, students benefit from the STEM program (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics), preparing them to successfully compete in an innovative world market.
