Our School

Vaughan Willard Public School has a school population of just under 300 students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade Eight. Our staff are committed to value added opportunities beyond the curriculum and provide a variety of cocurricular activities for students.

Our School Improvement Team is made up of teachers and support staff. Our purpose is to improve student achievement in all areas of the curriculum. The staff at Vaughan Willard continue to focus on Comprehensive Literacy and Numeracy, incorporating strategies such as Read Aloud, Shared and Guided Reading and Writing into their daily literacy blocks. The use of leveled texts in all divisions, school-wide independent reading skills and a concentration on ‘Big Ideas’, Three-Part Lessons and Problem-Solving in mathematics will also continue. Diagnostic tools, such as Benchmarks, Running Records and CASI, are used as an assessment for learning, and are used to guide programming in the Primary, Junior and Intermediate Divisions. Our school focus last year was around the area of Mathematics.

Community Council

We have a very active School Community Council that supports the initiatives which are undertaken by the staff and students. The Council endeavors to create a life-long quest for personal growth. We also recognize and value the important role that parents play in their children’s education and we will continue to foster and develop relationships with parents and community partners. We have many volunteers who work in a variety of capacities throughout our school.
