Our School
History
MacLeod’s Landing P. S. and the surrounding community are named as a tribute to Captain Martin Donald MacLeod. Captain MacLeod emigrated from Scotland and settled in the area in 1862. He was awarded a large parcel of land, on which the school is located, as a reward for his distinguished military service in both Scotland and Upper Canada. The school’s name reflects the rich cultural heritage of the area and the cultural diversity that is embraced by community today.
Our school mascot is the Maverick, an indicator of the fierce adventurous spirit of the community members and their ancestors.
Facilities
MacLeod’s Landing P. S. opened its doors to the community’s children on September 6th, 2006. The Official School Opening Ceremony took place on November 9th of that same year.
A childcare centre operated by Upper Canada Child Care and is adjoined to the building. In addition to the daytime care it provides, U.C.C.C. also runs the before and after school program for the community’s families.
During the fall of 2013 a new addition was built on the south side of the building. This addition included two new classrooms and a new Music room.

Safe and Supportive Schools/Character Education
Every student has the right to learn in a safe and supportive environment. The York Region District School Board has a Safe Schools Policy and a defined procedure to implement the policy. Both the policy and procedure support the view that student discipline involves a continuum of support including prevention, intervention and appropriate consequences.
In addition, MacLeod’s Landing P. S. supports the development of character education in the York Region District School Board.
