Our School
History
The name of Richmond Rose Public School is based on the Town of Richmond Hill's longstanding reputation as the "Rose Growing Capital of Canada". The school opened in September of 1999. The official opening ceremony for Richmond Rose P.S. was held on May 11, 2000. Our school motto is "Learning and Growing Together".
Facilities
Richmond Rose P.S. first opened its doors to students in September 1999. We are fortunate to be situated immediately adjacent to Redstone Park.
Programs
As with each school in the York Region District School Board, Richmond Rose P.S. support student learning through the curriculum standards set out by the Ontario Ministry of Education and many other co-curricular activities.
Our school:
- promotes a safe and supportive learning environment. This is done through the Board's Safe Schools Policy and Procedures and the Character Education Initiatives
- provides Special Education Programs
- provides a before and after school program. Service is provided by Le Club Child Care Program.
We are also very proud to offer the following programs to our students:
- VIP program – Values Influences and Peers (VIP) is a program for our Grade 6 students which brings representatives from the police into the school to discuss substance abuse, peer pressure and laws relevant to their age group
- Bus Safety
- Fire Safety
- Valuable optional athletic/arts/dramatic/musical programs
Safe and Supportive Schools/Character Education/Equity Education
Every student has the right to learn in a safe and supportive environment. The York Region District School Board has a Safe Schools Policy and a defined procedure to implement the policy. Both the policy and procedure support the view that student discipline involves a continuum of support including prevention, intervention and appropriate consequences.
In addition, Richmond Rose P.S. supports the development of character education in the York Region District School Board. The following is an overview of the school’s Character Education initiatives:
- one character attribute is featured each month
- monthly citizenship certificates and assemblies, for families and students
- in-class activities related to character education
- communication with parents through weekly e-communication
- day-to-day modeling, use of teachable moments
- Connected to Colour Houses - each student belongs to a House, cross divisions.
