About Birch Cliff Public School

Birch Cliff P.S. is a school steeped in the history of Scarborough. Mrs. Reece, the first principal at Birch Cliff, left a journal dating back to 1916. Entries provide a glimpse of life at the school; successes at the Agincourt and New Market School Fairs, watching children perform in concerts, spelling bees, plays and contributing to the war effort in WWII. Our school focus on academics, athletics and the arts parallels the school’s vision of almost a century ago! We recognize the part our school played in the history of the community and know that the tradition of high expectations has remained steadfast at Birch Cliff. As a partnership of staff, parents and students, we will continue a great heritage.

Birch Cliff Public School is located in Birchcliffe-Cliffside

Birch Cliff is located in the southwest part of the old city of Scarborough, running along the shore of Lake Ontario atop the western part of the Scarborough Bluffs. The area was first developed as the home of the Toronto Hunt Club in 1895 when the region was still mostly farms and woodland. A notable section of the neighbourhood is the former Birch Cliff Quarry. Cliffside was developed as a modern large scale suburban housing subdivision in the early 1950s, during the post–World War II period with the baby boom subdividing of farmland. The area south of Kingston Road was previously a golf course. Some homes were built prior to this period with the development of Birch Cliff to the west.
