Established in 1911, Courcelette Public School has a long history of providing excellent programs to a well established community. The school is located on Fallingbrook Road south of Kingston Road and east of Victoria Park Avenue in the Beach. Courcelette serves 330 students and is a small Kindergarten to Grade 8 community school. Our school aspires to provide a strong academic foundation in a rich learning environment. We endeavour to support each child striving for excellence. We are committed to enhancing each child's sense of self worth, appreciation and understanding of our diverse Canadian culture. Courcelette encourages parent and community participation in the educational process.
A Rich History
Our school is named after a famous battle in World War I, which took place in the village of Courcelette near the Somme River in France. The front foyer of the school is graced with a beautiful period painting of that famous battle flanked by the Canadian and British flags with a substantial colourized photo of her Majesty the Queen. Traditions new and old are a vital part of the fabric of our school with many of our students' parents and even some grandparents having attended Courcelette.
Our Veterans Make a Difference!
The primary students of Courcelette have been very fortunate to work over the years with a number of World War II veterans who have volunteered at our school. In honour of one such volunteer, the Harry Stone Primary Literacy Award has been established to honour a primary student who has made the most progress in reading.

At Courcelette we are committed to reaching out to the community. Our intermediate students are active leaders in Me to We activities within the school and out in the community. Their leadership engages all of our students as they plan school based events raising money for Free the Children, the Sick Kid's Foundation and Unicef.

Student Life - Where You Belong
There is something for everyone at Courcelette. The athletic season is book ended with cross country and track and field teams that draw over 100 athletes from the school. For a small school Courcelette makes its presence known at area and city meets. Teams cover a wide range of sports including volleyball, soccer, basketball, softball, ice hockey and ultimate Frisbee. There are intramural sports for the primary students e.g., floor hockey. In addition to athletics, the Arts are an integral part of school life. Instrumental music is offered to our intermediate students. Recorder, ukulele and vocal programs are offered to a number of our primary and junior classes. Other highlights include a holiday concert, spring theatrical production and a speech arts competition. Every month students’ achievements are celebrated at our sharing assemblies. The senior students are encouraged to take on leadership roles by mentoring younger students through our Character Education and our Mindfulness and Well-being programs.

Courcelette is located on the edge of Toronto's Beach Community and the Bluffs. This proximity to both the lake and Toronto's urban centre affords the students access to the many educational attractions the city has to offer. It also helps to instill a sense of environmental stewardship with respect to the area; as well as providing many great recreational opportunities. A large sense of community is evident in the degree of parental support and involvement through fundraising initiatives and a shared commitment to education and student success. Our vision is simple; " High Expectations, High Achievement". The dedicated staff have high expectations with the goal of fostering an inclusive environment that engages all learners. These factors continue to make the Courcelette community and school a desirable location for new families.
Parent and Community Engagement
Parental and community involvement are an integral part of the Courcelette experience. Our School Community Council coordinates our annual, “Fall Fest”, that brings together the local community, staff and students in a single day fundraising initiative that supports school life throughout the year. The School Community Council not only generously supports our staff and students, but the broader community by coordinating efforts for the Birchmount Bluffs Neighbourhood Centre "Share 365" Program, and Santa’s Breakfast. The R.O.C.S. Committee (Revitalization of Courcelette Schoolyard), works tirelessly to improve the outdoor space of our school. Our School Community Council and our school worked together to add a sprint track, expand our playscape and green our school yard with the planting of trees and gardens.
