Cosburn Middle School, located two blocks west of Coxwell Avenue on Cosburn Avenue, opened in 1949 as a Kindergarten to Grade 8 school. In 1950 it became a junior high school and in 1983, it was reorganized as a middle school. We are very fortunate to have an outstanding facility, maintained at very high standards by an exemplary Caretaking Staff. Our teachers, support staff, students and community members all contribute to make Cosburn a safe and nurturing environment in which to work and play. We serve approximately 600 students in Grades 6, 7, and 8 and offer a variety of opportunities for our students to get involved in our school!
Great Programs!
We are the only school in the TDSB that offers a Late (Grade 6 entry) French Immersion program. Many students from various schools apply to this intensive program. Upon completion in grade 8, students are fully integrated into French immersion in grade 9.
Literacy
Providing a balanced literacy program that engages all learners is our goal here at Cosburn. We have established a unified literacy plan that focusses on the explicit teaching of critical thinking skills which will enable our students to make well rounded choices as they progress through life. Our planning is data driven and focussed on meeting the needs of our students. Our teachers are constantly engaged in professional learning to meet the ever evolving needs of our students!

Numeracy
Here at Cosburn our goal is to relieve "Math anxiety" by providing an environment where students will access various skills on a consistent basis to challenge & develop their problem solving abilities. We have established a unified Math Approach which focusses on establishing consistency throughout the school & promotes the use of higher level thinking skills.
Community
Recognizing student achievements is the focus of our monthly school assemblies. Cosburn is driven towards providing opportunities to allow students to define success in & out of class. Our Me to We Club takes on various initiatives to engage worldwide and local causes. We host annual Boys & Girls Literacy conferences that allow us to connect with other schools.
Technology
The application of technology to learning is an essential piece for the 21st century learner. Our Science & Numeracy (D&T) program is an important facet of our school. It provides every student the opportunity to apply Science concepts beyond the regular classroom. The MCS initiative has exposed our grade 6 students to consistent use of technology to express thinking.
Special Education
Cosburn MS is an inclusive community where the learning of all students is important. Through our Special Education team, every student is supported in providing the best programs for our students. Student Life - Where You Belong
Cosburn Middle School provides various programs to engage our students. We offer many co-curricular programs which allow them to display leadership, and master their social skills. Our Me to We and SAC continue to foster student leadership by allowing their voices to be heard, and their actions to be respected. They have engaged in many charitable endeavours that are a testament to the wonderful students we have here. Our ECO club has led our school through many environmental awareness initiatives and have educated our students and staff on the importance of eco-awareness and energy efficient practices. This leadership has spawned a Gold level Eco School status and this year we are going for Platinum! Other Student leadership opportunities include: Girls Mentorship, Student Announcers, Library Helpers, GSA, Athletic Council, and House League.
What Sets Us Apart
Our dynamic staff and student body set us apart from other schools. Being a quadruple track school with a multitude of extra-curricular activities allows us to be a vibrant school community that is always on the go! Our focus on providing opportunities for our students in and out of school is something we are extremely proud of here at Cosburn! We want our students to take ownership, rather than membership in their education! To do this, we need to provide them with opportunities to make well-rounded decisions that will positively affect our community.
Parent and Community Engagement
The Home and School Association has been a vital part of Cosburn Middle School for nearly 60 years. This association continues its support of our school and is working closely with the Cosburn School Council. Our school council is also active at Cosburn. Meetings provide information to parents about current educational issues. We welcome their advice and support. Parents are encouraged to become involved with both parent groups.
