Jack Miner Public School is a JK-grade 8 school in the north-west part of Whitby. Our student population is comprised of 400 Regular Stream students and 200 Gifted Program students. We also have one primary level special education class with 7 students. The students in our Gifted Program come from all over Whitby. We currently provide a half day kindergarten program as well as one class of all day, every other day kindergarten. Miner’s staff and parent community support academics and co-curricular activities. Some of these activities include school teams, bands, choir, clubs, special events and several overnight trips. These opportunities encourage and develop the strengths and interests of our students. We believe that student leadership development is an important part of character development.
The Williamsburg residential neighbourhood is in west Whitby, northwest of Downtown. It features forested watershed areas and plenty of parklands and biking/walking trails, as well as tree-lined streets with mature trees. Restaurants are located along Brock St, and a shopping area is at Taunton Road and Brock Street, and the neighbourhood is also close to downtown. The east side of this area features larger homes on generous lots, many with pools. There are also some townhome complexes. To the west, homes are newer single-detached, on slightly narrower lots, as well as townhomes.
