Corvette Junior Public School is a large community-based school, drawing on the many strengths of a culturally diverse neighbourhood. Open houses, student recognition assemblies, community barbecues, special events, co-curricular programs, and school volunteers are important traditions at our school. The origin of the school's name comes from the significant contribution the Corvette ships made to the Canadian Navy in the 1940s. Our school is committed to educating every student in our care by providing a learning environment that promotes the development of academic skills and knowledge, the growth of self-esteem, personal responsibility and the demonstration of respect and co-operation.
Model Schools For Inner Cities Initiative
The TDSB has developed the Model Schools for Inner Cities initiative to provide students with the tools, resources and opportunities they need to participate fully and equally in school and their communities. We are identified as one of many cluster schools who works in close collaboration with the Model School in our cluster.
Teaching Learning Critical Pathways (TLCP)
At Corvette, teachers work collaboratively in Professional Learning Teams to set high expectations for students, use data and assessment to guide instruction, provide feedback for students, understand the meaning and scope of the Ontario curriculum and develop effective and engaging lessons and learning tasks. The intended outcome of the TLCP is increased achievement for all students.

The Arts
Through the study of music, visual arts, drama and dance, Corvette students are given the opportunity to develop physical coordination and the ability to think creatively and critically. Our students have the opportunity to participate in such enriching activities as steel pan band, choir and folk dancing. Every student will play an active role in an arts initiative.
Reading Recovery
Reading Recovery is designed for Grade One students who are having difficulty learning to read and write. Daily, thirty minute lessons are designed and delivered by specially trained teachers to build on each child's unique strengths.
Nutritional Programs
Working in collaboration with the Toronto Foundation for Student Success, Corvette Junior P.S., is able to offer both a nutritional breakfast and morning meal program daily in accordance with Canada's Food Guide. The partnership between The Toronto Real Estate Board, our dedicated parent volunteers and school staff have led to the success of both of these programs.
International Languages Elementary Program
Our school offers the International Languages Elementary Program. This program is designed to give students the opportunity to learn additional languages, other than English and French, and to learn about and appreciate other traditions, customs, and cultures.

Student Life - Where You Belong
Our outstanding staff demonstrate their commitment to our students on a daily basis in a number of ways. A typical day begins with a nutritious meal in our Breakfast Club which is supervised by community volunteers from the Toronto Real Estate Board, parent volunteers, as well as staff. Students are then engaged throughout the morning in rich, curriculum-based learning tasks. In partnership with the Toronto Foundation for Student Success, a healthy snack is provided to all of the students each morning. The lunch hour is a lively and active time for both students and staff. Students have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of co-curricular activities, such as sports, houseleague, book clubs, choir, student council, gardening, art and games club. Staff can often be found leading co-curricular activities, attending School Improvement Meetings or participating in workshops. Afternoons provide students with another opportunity to further develop their academic skills within their classrooms. After school, many students enjoy continuing their learning though participation in co-curricular activities such as cooking club, folk dancing, homework clubs and sports teams.
