West Glen is a small inner-city junior school, located in the west end of Toronto that serves nearly 200 students, representing 30 different language groups. With such a variety of cultural groups represented, there are daily opportunities to learn new information about the world around us, making our school truly a "gateway to the world". Student Life
West Glen provides students with many different opportunities to develop their social, emotional and physical well being. We take pride in providing a learning culture that is inclusive, safe and takes the whole child into account. There are many student clubs, athletic teams, intramurals, playground PALS leaders and library programs. Our "Be the Change" focus allows students to reflect the words of Gandhi and to "be the change they wish to see in the world" through positive social action.

School Goals and Behaviour
At West Glen we strive to have a positive, stimulating, safe environment where all learners are appreciated and valued. Our learners will become literate communicators and effective problem solvers. Our Code of Behaviour is represented through our Character Education initiative where students are taught to use appropriate and consistent language when solving problems. Inappropriate behaviour is dealt with using a variety of progressive discipline using escalating consequences in consultation with parents.

School Council and Parent Involvement
West Glen is supported by a dedicated School Council and a group of parent and community volunteers who regularly come to work with our students, assist with special events and pizza lunches, help in the classroom and offer the parent perspective with important school and board issues.
Student Learning
West Glen has high standards and decisions are regularly made to improve learning. Dedicated teachers work hard to know the students and build relationships with both students and parents. A variety of programs and services are offered to meet the needs of all students, including students with exceptionalities.
School Enrollment and Languages
The total student enrollment is 175 with 117 primary students in kindergarten to grade three and 58 junior students in grades four and five. The student ratio of male and female is equal Forty two percent of students speak languages other than English at home and they are mainly Arabic, Bengali, Mandarin, Spanish, Tagalog, Twi, Hindi, Somali, and Urdu.

What Sets Us Apart
West Glen takes pride in building relationships as the Hub of the Community. Parent volunteers are welcome and regularly come to work with at risk readers in the Reach Out & Read program. There are regular "Snack and Chat" sessions with guest speakers who provide parenting hints and tips (e.g. how to help your child with math homework). The parenting centre in the school works hard to build relationships with parents and school personnel with the early learning of pre-school aged children.
