Interesting Feature
Our History: School for Children with Tuberculosis
Orde St. Junior P.S. has an open third floor space which was created in the early part of the 20th century to be used for children who had tuberculosis. It was believed that sick children could still go to school if they could be taken outside on their gurney to benefit from some time outside in the fresh air.

Our Partnership with AGO
Orde St. P.S. has a unique partnership with the Art Gallery of Ontario. As a member of the AGO's Community Access Program, we benefit from free teacher-guided visits to this wonderful gallery. Students also have the opportunity to attend Art Camp during the March Break and for 2 weeks in the summer.
We Learn Mandarin Simplified
Orde St. P.S. has an International Languages Integrated Day Program. Since the predominant international language at Orde is Chinese, we have opted to have Mandarin Simplified taught to each of our Grade K- 6 classes. Our students benefit from learning about the Chinese language and culture which enriches their educational experience at Orde.
Quality Daily Physical Education at Orde
We provide our students with quality daily physical education. On days when physical education is not scheduled, they participate in DPA (daily physical education) for a 20 minute period. We believe that children who are physically fit are better prepared to learn. We also offer a variety of extracurricular sports with many opportunities for our students to get involved.
Student Life - Where You Belong
The students of Orde St. JPS enjoy a full educational program, combining rigourous academics, social experiences, quality daily physical education and opportunities for extra-curricular involvement. There are numerous sporting teams: cross-country, soccer, basketball, baseball, volleyball and track and field. This year we also offer chess and tennis programs that take place after school. Many of our Grade 5 & 6 students take part in an Instrumental Music program.
What Sets Us Apart
Orde St. JPS we continue to implement instructional practices that promote student success and achievement. We have a common primary timetable with a strong focus on literacy skill development based on a balanced literacy foundation. Students are regularly assessed using the Observation Survey in kindergarten, DRA in primary and CASI in the junior grades. These assessments guide our school improvement plan and help our teaching staff tailor instructional strategies for our students.
