Student Life - Where You Belong
On behalf of the student body, we would like to share that: Silver Springs has many programs that encourage students to show their school spirit! We interact with teachers through many extra-curricular activities and feel very safe because of the great community established here. Students are friendly to each other and encourage everyone to participate, no matter what their culture, religion, race, gender or ability. We have learned the importance of joining together to help support developing countries, each other, and the community. We incorporate eco-friendly habits into daily school life. There are friendly competitions between teachers and students in various sports. At our school, students take part in many nutritious lunches, and also look forward to the healthy snack program. Students can freely display their talents, as shown in the art on the walls of Silver Springs, and in talent shows (winter and spring). We love our school so much that we can often be seen early in the morning and late in the evening taking part in many clubs and teams. Overall, students think of Silver Springs PS as their second home, and the teachers as close friends! - Student Council
What Sets Us Apart
What sets Silver Springs apart...our students...our staff...our community! Our students are the best because...they have strong school spirit; they like to have fun; they are active in school life; they are good ambassadors of our school and the TDSB; and they are engaged in their learning and contribute to daily life. Our staff is excellent because...the teachers and staff are committed to students; the caretaking team is great; the office staff is friendly; the teachers are engaged in "TLCPs" - learning as a community to build and create literacy and numeracy pathways that focus on student success; and the teachers mentor faculty students in their classrooms. Our community is awesome because...it is a friendly place to learn and work; it represents a diverse community that encourages social justice; our Tamil and Chinese Settlement Workers support our parents; and our parents, staff, students sit together on committees (Safe &Caring, Leadership Team, Design & Construction, School Council).
Parent and Community Engagement
At Silver Springs we have forged many partnerships with our parents and community, including: Parent Council and Parent volunteers (assist in classrooms, excursions, committees), St. Silvester Catholic School (evacuation site), L'Amoreaux Community Centre (grade 8 graduation and evacuation site), Settlement Workers (Chinese and Tamil), ACSA & Action for Neighbourhood Change (Glendower site), Faculty Students (teacher candidates - OISE, nurses - York University), and Co-op Students (L'Amoreaux C.I.).
