What Sets Us Apart
Currently, Cassandra is one of many schools across the TDSB that offer entry into the Junior Extended French Program in Grade 4. The TDSB currently offers both a Junior Extended French Program and an Intermediate Extended French program. The Extended French programs are designed for students who do not speak French at home. The Junior Extended French program begins at the Grade 4 level. Students in this program spend 50% of their day in French instruction from Grade 4 - Grade 8 at the Extended French school. The subjects taught in French are: French Language Arts, Social Studies and The Arts. English Language Arts, as well as Mathematics and Science are taught in English. Designated school pathways have been developed to ensure that students have a continuation of program from the Grade 4 entry to the end of Grade 12.
Parent and Community Engagement
The Cassandra School Council is a partnership between parents, the principal, staff, and other members of the school community. The purpose of the Council is to promote participation in the affairs of the school and to provide a forum for collaboration in support of our children's learning.
Some of the activities we organize and support include:
- Whole school programs (e.g., yoga, plays, etc.)
- Booster reading program
- Special lunches
- Movie nights
- Graduation ceremonies
- After school programs
- Play Day in June
All parents are invited to the school council meetings. We hold meetings 6 times per year starting at 6:30 pm in the Staff Room. At each meeting, the principal provides an update on school activities and the Council discusses issues affecting the school.
