Rosethorn is a French Immersion Kindergarten to grade 5 school. It currently serves 376 students in both of Canada's official languages. With our motivated staff and tremendous parental involvement and support of the school, Rosethorn has a strong sense of community. There is a sense of history at Rosethorn because many parents and community members are former students. Our students, staff and community have worked together to naturalize our school yard. The Rosethorn Satellite Daycare offers an excellent before and after school program as well as daycare for Kindergarten children. Our aim is to develop life long learners in a safe, nurturing and inspirational environment while embracing diversity - joie de vivre!
School and Community Activities
In cooperation with our very active School Council there are many activities to involve the school community. We have an annual Rosie's Fun Fair which is a day with lots of activities for the family. Here you will find food, fun and teachers in the dunk tank! Our Skating Party held during an evening in February and gets families outside, active and mingling. Our super spooky Halloween Extravaganza is always a sell-out with creepy, crafty adventures for kids. In December we have a craft night where children make a variety of crafts from around the world. Not to be missed, our end of year concert is out of this world.

Our Commitment to High Academic Achievement
Rosethorn staff set high expectations for student achievement. Instruction is relevant and interesting to students. Our EQAO scores are exceptional. Homework club is offered to support junior students. We also access the TDSB programme Tutors in the Classroom for French Immersion and English students. Our specialist Music and Art teachers integrate their wonderful lessons with literacy and/or math, helping student to make greater connections.

The Arts at Rosethorn
Music is very important to Rosethorn's identity. We have choirs who sing with the Queensmen, and perform at a variety of board wide events such as Springfest, Asian Heritage and the Martin Luther King Day celebration. This year some students are working with the Canadian Opera Company to create an opera. This year a teacher/artist is working with many of our classes.
Sports at Rosethorn
Our students are actively involved in a variety of sports events. In the fall it's Cross Country, football, baseball, and soccer. In the winter it's basketball and volleyball. In the spring it's track and field. In addition, many of our grades 4 and 5 students play in our inter-school floor hockey tournament.
Extra-Curricular Activities
There are a number of activities in which students at Rosethorn can get involved. We participate in the Forest of Reading Club and students from Grades 3 to 5 can participate in the lunch Reading Club. We have a skipping club, environment club, postal club, Peacemakers, French video club, and many more.
Student Life - Where You Belong
Students are happy to attend Rosethorn, regardless of their language of instruction. There are a number of extra-curricular activities designed to meet the needs of all learners. These include, choir, sports, postal club, scrabble, crafts, book clubs and announcers. The students work hard to treat each other with respect and the programme Second Step in used in all classrooms to further efforts around cooperation with others. There are a number of field trip experiences provided to students. These include cross-country skiing, theatre, the Etobicoke Field Studies Centre, Mono Cliffs and many others.
What Sets Us Apart
Our school is known for both choral programming and athletics. Our choirs routinely participate and win accolades in various events and in Kiwanis festivals. Our schools teams regularly place in their division and beyond. Co-op students from neighbouring secondary schools assist in the classrooms. Teachers from provincial and universities abroad spend time in classrooms doing practicum teaching to complete teacher certification. We use programmes such as Watershed on Wheels and Scientists in Schools to help support our Science curriculum.
Parent and Community Engagement
Community service personnel help support the delivery of the curriculum. We have a very active and supportive School Council. Parent volunteers are welcome and help us in academic and extra-curricular activities. Through fundraising, parents provide enrichment activities and resources for our learners. The parents organize a number of enjoyable events for the school and community. These include a Dance-a-thon, Skating Party, Halloween Evening, and of course, the famous Fun Day. Parents also run Pizza and Subways lunches one a month.
