Where Character Counts!
At Maple Leaf we believe that "all children can and must learn!" We expect and therefore teach to "Level 4" achievement expectations. Our value for excellence in student achievement must be balanced with our moral imperative to prepare our children for responsible and respectful citizenship. By implementing the Toronto District School Board's Equitable Schools policy and Ronald Edmonds philosophy for effective schools, we strive to create a positive and caring learning environment that has high expectations for student achievement and student well being.
Character Development/Healthy Living
Character Development permeates our curriculum and school culture. We focus on the traits of respect, responsibility, honesty, empathy, kindness and perseverance to foster a positive learning environment. To encourage healthy living, our instructional school day begins with daily physical activity (DPA). Parental engagement continues to be essential to ensuring the success of our nutrition program.
Student Life - Where You Belong
Our students have numerous opportunities to demonstrate positive leadership skills and participate in a variety of extra-curricular activities. These opportunities will be expanded with the change to our school's configuration. We look forward to initiating a student council and establishing more partnerships with our secondary feeder school.
What Sets Us Apart
At Maple Leaf, it's the people and not the programs or resources that set us apart and enable us to be an effective school. We have a staff that is "second to none!" They are dedicated to providing a safe, caring and nurturing learning environment for our students. Our staff's professionalism is exemplary, as it is reflected in their commitment to improving instructional practices by working collaboratively to ensure that our students experience high levels of achievement. Our support staff continue to be the cornerstone of our success! Together we make a difference in the lives of our students.
Learning Buddies
Senior students learn the skills required to be an effective and supportive learning buddy to our younger students. They meet on a weekly basis to extend a learning strategy in literacy or mathematics that has been emphasized throughout the school (eg., geometry - use elastics to create various two-dimensional shapes on the geoboard).
