Tredway Woodsworth Public School is located in Toronto East and is named after a prominent Scarborough pioneer who exemplified leadership in the community. The school opened in September 1956 with ten classrooms and one Kindergarten room. Currently, our two-story school accommodates 35 classes, in 33 classrooms and serves a student population representing a rich diversity of cultural backgrounds. William Tredway and JS Woodsworth combined in 2015 to become Tredway Woodsworth Public School. Tredway Woodsworth is a dual-track school, offering instruction in English from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8 and French Immersion from Senior Kindergarten to Grade 8.

We are continuing to improve and increase our Literacy and Numeracy resources and programs. We are accomplishing this through staff professional development and ensuring supporting resources are in the classrooms. The staff continues to analyze the data from a variety of resources available to us, which helps us drive our instruction and assessment strategies to improve student performance and learning within our school.

Language and Literacy
At Tredway Woodsworth we believe that a solid foundation in literacy is critical. Through daily reading with leveled instructional materials , and a focus on improving reading comprehension and higher order thinking we strive for success. We use DRA, Alpha Jeunes, running records CAT 4 and CASI assessments with data from our report cards and EQAO, to inform our practice.
Math, Science and Technology
Tredway Woodsworth students receive a strong foundation in their numeracy skills. The ability to be numerate is critical to success both within the school system and in the larger community. Furthermore, our students have an opportunity to develop their technological skills in the classroom and our computer lab.
Student Leadership
At Tredway Woodsworth, we believe that part of our mandate is to develop well rounded students who are prepared to be productive and positive citizens in our society. We offer leadership opportunities to all our students through awareness of Character Education, School Prefects, School Safety Patrollers, our Eco-Club and other opportunities within the school.
Student Athletics
Tredway Woodsworth has a long history of excellence in athletics. Our recent success of a city championship (Grade 6 Girls Softball), House Leagues, Track and Field, Cross-Country, Bordonball, and Flag Football are some of the many extra-curricular sports that happen at Tredway. Our staff are dedicated to keeping our students active and healthy.

Student Life - Where You Belong
While supporting students to achieve their academic potential is our primary focus, students also have a multitude of opportunities to participate in extra-curricular and leadership opportunities. Our Athletic program provides extensive extra-curricular and house league programs. In the fall we have cross country and baseball, followed by basketball and volleyball in the winter and soccer and cricket in the spring. Our Performing Arts program consists of Junior and Senior bands and our dance club which culminates with our school musical performance and a talent show that showcases our student's talents in the spring. The Eco Club is consistently actively recycling, supporting lunchtime greenbin programs, composting and raising student and staff awareness on a number of other issues. We offer numerous leadership opportunities for our junior students including safety patrol, prefects, office helpers, morning announcements and distribution of pizza lunches. Students fundraise in the fall for the Canadian Cancer Society through the Terry Fox Run, and in the spring for the Heart and Stroke Foundation through Jump Rope for Heart.
What Sets Us Apart
Tredway Woodsworth is a dual track French Immersion/ English school split about 40/60. We strive on the progress made by our students and help support them with specialty teachers in Music, Drama/Dance Phys. Ed., Computers and Library. We are also very proud of our Eco School's Platinum status and we are working diligently to maintain this within the TDSB. Our Eco Club has pushed for more trees in our school yard, litterless lunches and a greater conservation of energy school-wide.
Parent and Community Engagement
We have a number of teacher candidates from various University's Faculty of Education pre-service program. Through a close connection with Toronto Fire Services, holiday food drives support local food banks. We have had an on-going connection with Cedarbrae Library, which is part of Toronto Public Libraries, that has supported our school's focus on Literacy through the organization of classroom visits for all children, and presentations to our community at various school functions. Various local businesses and organizations support our school through the donation of products and services for annual fundraisers and other community social services like e.g.Tropicana. We have an active School Council which meets regularly. Volunteers and School Council Members are involved in fundraising, supporting staff and students in classrooms, on excursions, in the library, and for special events.
