Our School
Lorna Jackson P.S. is named after the former Mayor of Vaughan, Lorna Jackson. Ms. Jackson, a long time resident of Woodbridge, was mayor of the City of Vaughan for 20 years and involved in various leadership positions within the City for over 30 years. Her leadership and zest for life was an inspiration for all. Our school motto is: Lorna Jackson Public School: Leading Celebrating Learning Growing. Our school mascot is: The Lorna Jackson Stinger
Programs
As with each school in the York Region District School Board, Lorna Jackson P.S. supports student learning through the curriculum standards set out by the Ontario Ministry of Education and many other co-curricular activities.
Our school:
- promotes a safe and supportive learning environment. This is done through the Board's Safe Schools Policy and Procedures and the Character Education Initiatives
- provides Special Education Programs
- provides a before and after school program. Service is provided by Y.M.C.A. of Greater Toronto.
We also offer the following programs to our students:
- Anti-Bullying Programs
- Guest speakers and workshops
- Ongoing and informal social skills counseling
- Progressive Discipline Model
- Student Leadership program
- VIP program
- Attendance Counseling Services
- Behaviour Team Services
In addition, Lorna Jackson P.S. supports the development of character education in the York Region District School Board. We focus on character attributes in our classrooms, during morning announcements, through monthly themes, and we recognize and celebrate successes during monthly ‘good news' assemblies. Our daily reminder: "At Lorna Jackson, our students are respectful (of themselves and others), responsible (for their actions) and ready (to listen, learn and participate)."
