Westervelts Corners Public School is "a community of learners today, leaders tomorrow."

Westervelts Corners opened in September of 1999. It is part of a unique concept as our facility was designed and organized as a joint school site - the only one in the Peel board and the Dufferin Peel Catholic District School Board that contains two schools - Westervelts Corners and St. Cecilia Elementary School. Each school has its own office and administrative team, with the staff room and library shared. There is one, large gym with a folding wall that divides the space into two, allowing for two, separate gym classes, one for each school. Both schools operate on different timetables and separate schedules, which have teachers from both schools covering the supervision area. There are times when we plan events for both staffs and student bodies, and joint committees which handles details common to both schools. These include our Remembrance Day assembly and some concerts.

Westervelts Corners is a very caring kindergarten to grade 5 school. We have approximately 400 students with close to 300 of our students being bused across Highway #10. We offer solid literacy and numeracy blocks of uninterrupted teaching and learning time, something we greatly cherish. We value arts in education and in the life of a child. This is apparent as you walk through our halls, with the many murals on our walls being painted by children. We have a very active music program that showcases student learning at every grade level. Westervelts values the integration of technology in the classroom with teaching and learning. All instructional spaces have a document camera, projector and computer. We have a computer lab with 25 stations, a portable netbook lab that runs on a wireless system and clicker response technology.

Some of the extracurricular activities offered here at Westervelts have included: stacking club, Lego robotics, choir, recorder, cross country running, bucket drumming, primary Lego, U Got Dance, backgammon, track and field, basketball, boom-whackers, hand-bell choir and volleyball. Leadership opportunities are available in many areas including kindergarten helpers, bus monitors, library helpers, office assistants, PALs (playground activity leaders), milk delivery, and weekly pizza orders. Every two years we have offered a school play or musical for our juniors to participate in. Parents are welcomed throughout the school year as volunteers and partners. We offer a Welcome to Kindergarten evening, EQAO information evening and Literacy Education Evenings.
