Located in the heart of Caledon Village, Caledon Central Public School is a country school that offers an elementary experience from kindergarten to grade 8. Grade 7 students join Caledon Central each year from Alton and Belfountain Public Schools, enriching the intermediate division.
At almost 50 years of age, Caledon Central boasts a tradition of community ties and intergenerational relations. Parents and community members are always welcomed, as staff work on building partnerships for student achievement. The staff attends numerous professional development opportunities and collaborates in a variety of team situations, utilizing internal and external personnel. A partnership has been developed with the OPP as they provide the DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) and GREAT (Gang Resistance Education and Training) programs. Caledon Central has a strong and collaborative school council. The many volunteers expand the opportunities offered to students, including contributing to a breakfast program, weekly hot lunch days, a parent assisted reading program and volunteers in classrooms, library programs and school trips.
With a focus on developing the whole child, Caledon Central is a leader in competitive sports in the junior and intermediate grades, with a variety of gender specific and co-ed teams including basketball, 3-pitch, volleyball, flag football, track, floor hockey, and cross country. Caledon Central also competes in the Gauss Math Contest, Chess and Excellence in Eloquence (Speeches). An instrumental music program is offered to Grade 7 and 8 students with several music clubs also available to students, such as the guitar club. The annual musical provides an opportunity for many students to showcase their talent on stage or behind the scenes. School spirit is raised with each student and staff member included on a house league team. Finally, a variety of clubs are also available to students - some that run year round - such as Team Minga, PALS (Playground Activity Leaders in Schools), chess, jogging, junior French club and lego robotics.
