About Duke of Cambridge PS

Duke of Cambridge Public School opened its doors to students on Tuesday, September 3, 2013. The choice of Duke of Cambridge as the name for our Bowmanville school is fitting, as the opening of the school marked a fresh beginning for the school previously known as Ontario Street, which the staff and students have proudly made their own, while the title of Duke of Cambridge was granted to Prince William as he embarked on his new life as well. We have grown significantly since opening, as the school started with just over 600 students in its first year, and we are now at nearly 900, with the addition of 7 portables.

Duke of Cambridge PS is located in Bowmanville

Bowmanville was first incorporated as a town in 1858, but later incorporated with the neighbouring townships of Clarke and Darlington in 1974 forming the Town of Newcastle, which was renamed in 1994 to the Municipality of Clarington. Subdivided housing developments first arrived in the 1950s, with a significant increase in housing development through the 1980s and 1990s. Bowmanville is surrounded by rural areas on three sides, and Lake Ontario to the south. Farmland formerly covered central Bowmanville until the population increased, thus establishing a nascent downtown core by the early 19th century. There is a harbour to the south of Bowmanville in Port Darlington.
