Welcome to the Glen
Glen Williams is a hamlet in the Credit River valley and is part of Halton Hills in the Halton Regional Municipality. The Credit River extends over 1500 km from the Niagara Escarpment, emptying into Lake Ontario at Port Credit, Mississauga. The historic Williams Mill, originally built by Benajah Williams and sons Joel and Charles in 1825, was lovingly restored in the 1990's and is now a thriving visual arts center with working studios for artists and craftspeople. Glen Williams Public School moved from its original location at 11 Prince Street to its current location, directly across from the Mill in 1965. It is currently home to approximately 220 children.
Glen Williams Community Spirit
Here at Glen Williams we have exceptional school spirit and we care for our community!
GWPS has engaged in community spirit throughout the year with our participation in the following events:
- The Terry Fox Run
- The Candlelight Tribute in support of veterans
- Remembrance Day Services
- Light up the Hills Winter Festival
- Music Monday - a synchronized musical performance connecting elementary and high school students from coast to coast. The event, organized by the Coalition for Music Education in Canada, was designed to celebrate the inspiring power of music throughout Canada and to demonstrate that music is a powerful tool for learning.
- Earth Day Cleanup
- Live Free Campaign in support of Halton Food For Thought
Special Lunch Days
We schedule Special Lunch days every Friday throughout the year at GWPS. Students are invited to pre-order a special lunch of a healthy Pita sandwich on Pita Fridays, a healthy Sub on Sub Fridays, or a slice of cheese or pepperoni pizza on Pizza Fridays.
The Healthy Snack Program
Healthy Snack programs are a wonderful way to get students crunching and munching on all sorts of healthy foods! The mission of the Glen Williams Healthy Snack Program is to relieve child hunger, to improve behaviour and academic performance, to provide nutrition education and to influence healthy lifestyle choices. Students receive a healthy mid-morning snack e.g. fresh fruits, & vegetables. This provides an opportunity to learn about the nutritional value of food and how to make healthy food choices. Kids are able to concentrate for longer periods of time and enjoy new taste experiences. We rely on parent volunteers to prepare and distribute the snacks daily. Their commitment, dedication and support are essential to the ongoing operation and success of the program. Contact the school if you would like more information.
Glen Gatherings
Everyone is welcome!! These Tribes based assemblies are held once a month on a Friday morning beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the gym. Teachers will contact the parents of students who will be receiving Tribes certificates, however, the assemblies are open to all parents of all children. Help us celebrate our students' achievements!
Glen Williams Flights
Flights are part of our school community and we use them during whole school activities and assemblies. Every student at Glen Williams is placed in one of 12 Flights. They remain with their Flight for their entire time at the Glen. Each Flight contains students from JK to grade 5, and grade 5s are the leaders. This way, students develop friendships across grades, build leadership skills and then become school leaders. We work on character traits that support our school community and help build relationships.
Movie Nights
Come out with your family and enjoy a great evening. Participants will have an opportunity to enjoy pizza and other prepared snacks at 6:00 p.m. before they settle in to watch the specially chosen movie. Students are encouraged to bring sleeping bags and pillows to create a cozy viewing area. Order forms will be sent home before each showing so stay tuned.
