Our School
Ramer Wood P.S. is named after the Ramer family who first settled in the area. They farmed the land surrounding the school. The school is part of a well-established community. The community celebrates its multi-cultural diversity. We have families whose roots span to all corners of the world. The neighboring school is St. Edwards, part of the Catholic school system. We work collaboratively with this school and share a community park (Raybeck Park), play structure and swings, which are owned and operated by the Town of Markham.
Ramer Wood P.S. was opened in 1986 and you may have noticed a time capsule to be opened in the fall of 2011 (25th anniversary) in our front foyer! A portable extension was added on to the school when it opened and it still remains attached to the school.

Safe and Supportive Schools/Character Education/Equity Education
Every student has the right to learn in a safe and supportive environment. The York Region District School Board has a Safe Schools Policy and a defined procedure to implement the policy. Both the policy and procedure support the view that student discipline involves a continuum of support including prevention, intervention and appropriate consequences. The YRDSB remains committed to the inclusion of anti-racist and equity education in its policies and programs.
In addition, Ramer Wood P.S. supports the development of character education in the York Region District School Board. The following is an overview of the school’s Character Education initiatives:
- Monthly "Leader-by-Example" awards are presented to students at assemblies.
- Teachers have been provided with in-class resources to support character education.
- All persons in the school model positive character traits at all times.
- Character Traits are highlighted in monthly newsletter, monthly assemblies and regularly on our outdoor school sign
