Tucked within a southern Mississauga community is a large park-like property that is home to Hawthorn Public School. There is a very, large singular oak tree on its grounds, and this tree has been a focal point for the school for more than 60 years.

Hawthorn is one of the few kindergarten to grade eight schools in Peel. Our sense of family is very strong and the advantage of having this range of ages reinforces the feeling. The school is able to offer mentoring to its younger students by its older ones. At Hawthorn, everyone knows everyone - teachers know the names of all the students and it is common to see grade 2 students playing with grade 7 students at recess, while grade 8 students spend time with kindergarten children. Our assemblies are always a celebration of belonging.

At Hawthorn we are committed to promoting high expectations for all students, where all students can learn by recognizing the individual needs and learning styles of every student and by respecting the diversity of each member of the learning community. The partnership between student families and the school is also paramount to our success.

The main focus at Hawthorn is global citizenship and is realized through our support to those around us. We are constantly engaged in sustaining a relevant and current learning environment that challenges each student, instils a love of learning, a quest for knowledge and a respect for themselves, others and the environment.
