About Our School
St. Mary Catholic School, named in honour of our Blessed Mother, opened its doors to approximately 325 students on September 5, 2012. St. Mary stands as a reminder of the very first Catholic elementary school to open in Halton. The Halton Catholic District School Board traces its roots back to 1856 when Father Morgan Rex-Ryan and Robyn Smith founded St. Mary’s School – the first Catholic elementary school in Oakville to establish education programs for Catholic children in the town of Oakville. At this time, St. Mary’s school was situated on the grounds of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church on Reynolds Street. The original building was eventually demolished in order to make room for a growing parish community. How very blessed we are to have the opportunity to respect our traditions while creating a brand new Catholic school community.
St. Matthew Catholic Parish
St. Mary Catholic School is blessed to be a member of St. Matthew Parish, located at 1150 Monks Passage.
Catholic Schools in the Halton Catholic District School Board continue to enjoy enriching relationships with their neighbourhood parishes and St. Mary is very fortunate to be part of the St. Matthew Parish family. Fr. Tim Hingston is the Pastor of St. Matthew and Father David Avila is the Associate Pastor. Together with the wonderful parish staff, our students regularly participate in school masses and liturgical celebrations in recognition of our Catholic faith traditions.
St. Mary has a vibrant faith community and our Catholic School Council has donated on behalf of all parents, a chapel on the first floor of the school. Students, staff and parents are invited to make prayer a part of every day and are welcome to take time to visit the chapel when spending time at St. Mary.
Extra-Curricular
At St. Mary we recognize the unique gifts God gives to each of us ~ parents, students and staff. It is our love for one another that inspires us to provide opportunities for those gifts to be discovered and celebrated in service of the community to which we belong. Thank you to the many staff members and parents who help provide these opportunities for our students.
There are always many extra-curricular events taking place during different times of the year at St. Mary Catholic School. As our students and staff change and grow, these activities will also be different from year to year. Encourage your children to get involved in the life of the school by using their gifts and talents in the service of others ~ their lives will be enriched beyond measure.
