How We Meet the Diverse Needs of Our Students

At St. Elizabeth Seton School we believe that each child deserves to attend school in a safe, inclusive and healthy learning environment. We strive to challenge each child’s academic potential and to assist each pupil to grow in the Catholic faith. We believe that Our Lord Jesus is the ultimate teacher and we strive to follow his teachings. Staff believe and work hard to ensure that all who enter our school are met with Respect, Caring and Acceptance. Our school day begins and ends with prayers. School masses and liturgical celebrations are an important component of our faith community. Catholic values are infused into the school curriculum and students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8 receive a rich religious education program.

The creation and maintenance of a safe and welcoming environment is a critical and important aspect of school life. Daily attendance is monitored, recorded and communicated to parents. A safe arrival program is in effect to ensure that all students are accounted for, either at home or at school. Parents and guardians must sign pupils in and out of the school for appointments. The visitor policy is enforced at all times. Pupils practice fire drills and lockdown procedures as required by the school board.

At St. Elizabeth Seton School we believe that every child deserves to feel safe so that he/she can focus his/her full attention and energy on academic growth.  To help achieve this, a behaviour code is in effect. The newly revised Code of Conduct is contained within student Agenda books which are carried by children from grades one to eight. All discipline situations are handled individually. Positive behaviour and the reinforcement of good behaviour are stressed. To recognize students who have demonstrated outstanding conduct or personal qualities, we have monthly student awards given out at a special assembly.

The Toronto Catholic District School Board follows Ministry curriculum and policy guidelines. Teachers at our school work cooperatively to plan and deliver a curriculum with an emphasis on objectives that will meet the needs of our students and the expectations of the Ontario curriculum. The teachers of St. Elizabeth Seton School are part of a professional learning community. They meet regularly to analyze student work in order to identify areas of strength and weakness and to develop instructional goals. Staff continually refine and enhance their professional skills through regular participation in divisional meetings and board sponsored in-services. 

In addition to the regular day, the teachers offer many extra-curricular activities to meet students' interests and needs. Sport teams, cross-country, track and field, choir, and W5H are some examples. These activities take place before or after school hours or at lunchtime.
