Elia Middle School is named after the original farming community of Elia. It is a school with a highly diverse student population. In 2011, Elia became part of the Model Schools for Inner City Program. We achieve student success through the Five Essential Components for Model Schools. They are Innovative Teaching and Learning; Support Services to meet the social, emotional and physical well-being of students; Embracing School as the Heart of the Community; Participating in Research, review and evaluation of students and program; and Sharing Best Practises. The Pride of Elia
Elia prides itself in providing innovative opportunities for our students. This school year, Elia Middle School partnered with CW Jefferys CI to participate in a pilot STEM project. The aim of the project is to inspire interest and excite passion for science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and reach students at the stage they start making career choices. Elia is also an ECO friendly school where staff and students work together to promote a greener environment. We also take pride in our arts programs: band, violin, steel pan, choir and African drumming and dance.

Sports at Elia Middle School
Elia's Health and Physical Education programs are designed to meet the physical needs of students by promoting physical fitness and life long learning on important health issues. We offer a variety of extra-curricular activities. Among these activities are Girls and Boys Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer, Dance, Badminton and Ultimate Frisbee.
Technology at Elia
Elia students are exposed to the use of technology in the classroom through the use of computers, tablets and Promethean boards during instructional time. Students use technology to expand their knowledge and skills across the curriculum. Some of the areas that they explore using information technology are: literacy, media, numeracy and other interrelated subjects.
Special Education
At Elia we offer a Special Education program called Home School Program (HSP) for students who are identified using a formal review process.The committee that identify students' exceptionalities and reviews students' progress is called an Identification, Placement and Review Committee (IPRC). Our teachers deliver differentiated programs to support a variety of learners.
Community Partnerships
Elia works with community partners to enrich students learning experiences throughout the years. We are pleased to continue our partnerships with the Hammer Band, York University, The Achievers afterschool program, TDSB Model Schools, Public Health and other community agencies to promote student success.

Student Life - Where You Belong
Elia is committed to the Toronto District School board's Years of Action plan by focusing all our resources to support every one of students every day of the year. Students have opportunities to work and play in a diverse community of learners. These learning opportunities help students and parents to work with staff to understand and learn more about themselves and other regions of the world. The partnerships that are formed with stakeholders build a sense of responsibility for continuous student improvement.
What Sets Us Apart
Elia's students are actively involved in a variety of academic and student success programs. These programs include Science Fairs, Robotics Competitions, Spelling Bee, Mathematics Competitions and Debate Competitions. Our students also attend conferences such as: Young Women on the Move, Dare to Dream, Me to We, Empowered Student Program, Voices Speak Up, Future Teachers Symposium and Financial Literacy. Lastly, we have one of the most diverse teaching staff that reflects the population of our students. The diversity of our faculty and students provide an environment in which all students have role models that will stimulate them to follow their dreams.
Parent and Community Engagement
Elia works in partnership with San Rowmanoway Revitalization Association, North York Harvest Food Bank, Hincks-Dellcrest Centre and 31Division Police to build community relationships to promote essential skills that fosters good citizenship. Our school uses the expertise of parents and other agencies that support our efforts in promoting high student achievement, student safety and partnership with home and school. Our staff works closely with community agencies such as, the Vision Clinic and Public Health to provide a full range of services to our students and their families. We have a Settlement Worker who works out of our school two days per week. The Settlement program is a community based partnership program that provides new students and parents with orientation sessions, referrals to settlement agencies, resources, translation, interpretation and much more.
