Gosford P.S. is part of the Model Schools for Inner City Program. Nutrition Program

Our Nutrition program has become an integral part of our morning routine. Each day our students enjoy three food groups. This important aspect of our program helps our students to learn to eat nutritiously and helps them concentrate better on their learning.

Parental Engagement

Parents are warmly welcomed and are encouraged to be an integral part of our school community. Involvement in our School Council, Nutrition Program, extra-curricular activities as well as assisting with excursions are important ways that parents contribute. Parents also connect with the school for Literacy evenings, School Concerts, EQAO Information Nights and Parent workshops. Gosford has a partnership with the Hospital for Sick Children. Doctors have come to our school to provide strategies to families to promote the health and academic success of their children.

Focused Instruction

Both our teachers and students reflect on the type of questions that they pose so that higher-level thinking is fostered and that stimulating discussions take place. Teachers model for their students by "thinking aloud" and then gradually helping students become more independent thinkers through guided activities and then independent challenges.

Meeting Curriculum Expectations

We challenge our students to think critically and provide them with lots of practice identifying main ideas and concepts, providing proof for their ideas and a rationale for a strategy chosen to solve a problem. They are encouraged to make connections to books and classroom experiences by relating "big ideas" to their own life, other texts and media as well as the world.

We believe that every student must be respectful and be a respected citizen of our school. We will provide a caring, secure, healthy and safe learning environment that promotes student success. Student Life - Where You Belong

As part of the Model Schools for Inner City Project, we embed culturally relevant and authentic learning experiences into the classroom. Our goals are to promote equity, build community, foster inclusiveness and to expect every child to progress to a high level of academic achievement. At Gosford, maintaining a kind and caring school community is a priority. We incorporate the 10 Character Traits emphasized by the TDSB every day at our school. The Character Traits, Respect, Responsibility, Empathy, Kindness & Caring, Teamwork, Fairness, Honesty, Co-Operation, Integrity and Perseverance are consistently discussed, written about and demonstrated by staff and students. Each month we highlight and celebrate a Character Trait through various art forms, poetry reading and written work.

Learning Through The Arts

Through a partnership with the Royal Conservatory of Music, the implementation of the Learning Through the Arts program in classrooms allows teachers to work closely with specially trained artists who assist with curriculum planning and implementation. Through this collaborative effort, students benefit from enriched arts programming in music, visual arts, drama and dance. Whenever possible, student learning in the arts is linked to literacy, numeracy, science and social studies.
