Student Life - Where You Belong
Students at Shoreham Public Sports & Wellness Academy demonstrate leadership skills and sense of social responsibility through a variety of experiences as positive role models and change agents both locally and globally. Working towards becoming a Platinum ECO School, students take great pride in being environmental leaders that remind us all of the importance in reducing, recycling and reusing. Supporting meaningful national and international causes such as the Terry Fox Foundation for Cancer Research and fundraising for the rebuilding of Philippines, our students exemplify the potential that is in all students. Through daily instructional activities in the classroom involving smart board technology and through cross-curricular experiences in athletics (e.g. championship teams in basketball and soccer) and the arts (e.g. violins, steel pan drums) our students benefit from enriched learning experiences that validate their strengths and multiple intelligence. Finally, the students of Shoreham take great pride in honouring and celebrating the lives, cultures and rich histories of the various ethnic groups that comprise our beautiful mosaic.
What Sets Us Apart
While many organizations and institutions emphasize environmental change and leadership, Shoreham not only acts on this ethic, but we are at the very root of the philosophy woven into the fabric of our school. Exemplary achievements in athletics also demonstrate the commitment and perseverance of students, staff and parents/guardians working together to ensure success. Located in the vibrant and passionate community of Jane and Finch in North York, Shoreham boasts both staff and administrators who are themselves the very products of this rich neighbourhood. With our caring attitude and strong commitment to student achievement, we empower all our community stakeholders, striving for ultimate success.
Parent and Community Engagement
Community Partnerships at the school include Shoreham Child Care, the Jamaican Canadian Association, George Brown College, Humber College, and the Driftwood Community Centre. Local businesses and community partners such as The Royal Bank, No Frills, Costco, and the Metropolitan Toronto Police further support our school. The school also partners with Black Creek Pioneer Village and the Black Creek Conservation Authority as part of the ECO schools focus. Our partnerships with various faculties at York University provide our students with mentors to enhance success.
