The original school, located in the Forest Hill community, was built in 1941. Over the years there have been many changes, additions and renovations to keep this school current. The school presents a welcoming environment and works hard at positive partnerships to enhance student learning. West Preparatory has more than 540 students, one third of whom have been in Canada less than seven years. The students represent 45 different countries of origin and 25 different linguistic groups.
West Prep Children's Centre
The West Prep Children's Centre that operates year-round is a non-profit, parent-organized child care center that provides programs for Pre-School, Kindergarten, and school-age children.

Critical Pathways
We are currently working collaboratively in professional learning teams on Teacher Learning Critical Pathways. Our teams work together to clarify intended outcomes, develop common assessments and jointly analyze student achievement data. We share strategies and materials and engage in collective action research regarding student learning.

Toronto Schools On The Move (TSM)
At West Preparatory Junior Public School we have joined TSM to promote healthy living. We have increased our involvement in athletics through our participation in TDESSA sports. We have also increased our opportunities with lunch and after school activities run by our School Council.
Enriched Arts Program
We have an enriched arts program focusing on music, dance and drama. Kindergarten and Primary students participate in music with dedicated music teachers, where the love for the arts is explored and encouraged. Junior students participate in recorder, ukulele, choir, band or strings. Primary classes and Junior students are encouraged to participate in our yearly musical.
Active School Council
West Preparatory has an active School Council that meets regularly throughout the school year. The School Council provides input and feedback on various issues throughout the school year. The School Council organizes various activities throughout the school year such as pizza lunch, subway lunch, dance-a-thon, movie nights, bingo night and our very popular fun fair.
Technology
At West Preparatory we are advancing our use of technology in the classroom. Our entire school is WiFi enabled allowing for connectedness to online learning. We have a computer lab, interactive white boards, iPads, iMacs, Chromebooks and other 21st century tech tools. With family support and an involved tech committee we continue to expand technology at West Prep.

Student Life - Where You Belong
In addition to excellent classroom instruction, students have a variety of co-curricular activities from which to choose. They include a variety of musical opportunities, numerous athletic opportunities, various clubs, lunch and after 4 programs. There are also numerous opportunities to build leadership and community including Library Ambassadors and the Newcomers Ambassador's Club. We also have a rich Library/ Resource Centre with various text and media resources to support and enrich student learning.
