Eglinton Public School has served this community for over 100 years, celebrating a century at the corner of Mt. Pleasant and Eglinton. We have a long-standing tradition of community involvement and school spirit. The school serves close to 600 students from K to Gr.5. We strive to create a positive and dynamic learning environment where effort and achievement are celebrated and where everyone is treated with mutual courtesy, respect and understanding.
Our Library
Our Library is the hub of the school. When the school was rebuilt in 1999, an entrance way and pillars from the old school were incorporated into the new library, serving as a small stage or activity area for students. We have a large collection books including books on child development for parents. We participate in the Forest of Reading program and Storytelling. Chess Club and Board Games Club and Lego Club take place here at lunch. The library also houses a mini computer lab.We participate in the Reptilia Science Program so the library is also home to our geckos.
Critical Pathways
We are currently working in professional learning teams on Teaching Learning Critical Pathways. At the Primary and Junior level, teachers work together to determine areas of curricular focus based on student achievement data. Teams develop common assessments jointly analyze student work to ensure consistency of marking across grade teams. Next steps to learning are then developed on a collaborative basis to support student success.

Learning Through The Arts
Our Junior Teachers partner with The Royal Conservatory's Learning Through the Arts program. A guest artist works with the teacher in the classroom to provide arts based instruction that is linked to core curriculum areas such as Math or Science to address the multiple learning styles of our students.
Extended French
Our Extended French program begins in grade 4. Instruction in French is for half the day. Language, Social Studies, Visual Arts and Drama are taught in French. Math, Science, Music and Physical Education are taught in English.
Toronto Schools on the Move
We are a Toronto School on the Move! We are increasing the amount of daily physical activity. Our Parent Council is developing a nutritious hot lunch program which will be piloted in February. With the support of our teachers, junior level students are developing their leadership skills by teaching our younger students playground games through the PALS program.
Sports at Eglinton
Extra curricular sports are an important part of student life at Eglinton. Starting in September, with cross country running, we offer a variety of opportunities for boys and girls, including cross country running, football, basketball, volleyball and track and field.
Student Life - Where You Belong
Staff and parent volunteers work together to provide a wide variety of learning experiences and extra curricular opportunities for our students. Every class participates in the Scientists in the Schools program. We are a silver Eco school, and our Eco Club has helped make that happen. Students may also participate in Chess club, Storytelling Club, Boardgames Club, and Pokemon Club. Our junior level students are encouraged to try out for competitive sports such as basketball and volleyball. We also offer primary house league soccer and floor hockey. After school programs include yoga, ukulele and dance. Thanks to our teachers and parents working together, there is something for everyone here at Eglinton!
What Sets Us Apart
Eglinton Public School strives to teach students the importance of being part of a community. As a community member, they can make a difference to their world. We are part of a strong, diverse community. In partnership with our parents, we celebrate our diversity through such events as Taste of the World, a potluck where families bring dishes from their cultural background to share. The design of our school has won architectural awards. We are also home to Central Eglinton Children's Centre.
Parent and Community Engagement
Parent involvement is key to student success and our Eglinton School Community Council (CECC) supports us in all we do.We are working together to make our playground greener. They organize lunch activities for our students such as Chess Club, Boardgames Club and Pokemon Club. Recently, they have organized Yoga classes for our students! Parent volunteers help us in our classrooms. Our teachers provide placements for aspiring teachers and ECEs from OISE, Ryerson University, and George Brown College. Central Eglinton Children's Centre is also housed in Eglinton. It was founded in 1981 by parents of children in Eglinton Jr. P.S. The Centre offers care for nursery, pre-school, kindergarten and school age children. They are wonderful partners and provide a caring and nurturing environment for our students before and after school.
